i've been scouring craigslist for a bathroom sink, longing really for a vintage schoolhouse sink that would accommodate two faucets. well, that hasn't happened. but i did find this:

looks familiar right? okay, maybe not so much from above or in this crummy picture.
but really, this was a hell of a find.
vintage porcelain coated cast iron with a surprisingly modern shape. 22 inches wide, 42 inches long, and 8 inches deep with a big fat rounded lip on three sides.
someday this will be in my bathroom with his and hers wall mounted faucets.
yum.

and for the record, this is a killer tile job. it's so hard to get the tile spaced to make black grout look this good.

okay, so i'm having a big week with vessel sinks.
while i don't actually love (or even really like) these vessel sinks in and of themselves, i have this piece of furniture from ikea and it will loose it's spot in the house as soon as we put in the mantel sitting in the garage and i need a vanity for the bathroom.

i was prowling the internet for *surprise* pictures of vintage bathrooms. in addition to discovering that the type of sink i want is a called a schoolhouse sink and kohler makes a reproduction for $1,664 (i will be continuing to hunt for a salvaged piece), i found this picture of some stunning hardware

and for a practical choice:

this bathroom has almost exactly the same layout as ours
from vintage simple

i love the old mirror and the bead board.
i prefer a clawfoot tub and they are frequently on craigslist
for $125-150 - far less than a new tub costs.
and though pedestal sinks are pretty, i find them too impractical
in an old house where every inch of storage is a cherished feature.

i will not horrify anyone who actually reads this blog with a picture of my bathroom as it stands now. i think the staircase may have caused someone to jab out their eyes with a hat pin (i was tempted when i saw that picture again).
