i thought all hope was lost because, despite the being called kilim, they are make of woven recycled sari silk which sells for $16/160 yards of yarn and that is maybe enough yarn to knit half a side of one of these stools, which makes $228 sound like a bargain.i was considering buying a kilim rug on ebay and chopping it up, but then i found a source for actual woven fabric at $12/yard and three yards would make two stools with fabric to spare. plus wood to make frames and foam padding, two would be well under $100.
i already have the spot picked out in my living room.
while i was drooling over them online (and checking dimensions (20"h x 18"d x 18"w, in case you were wondering) so i could get my knock offs just right) i found this guy:
who would also be relatively easy to make a knock off of for far less than the $998 price tag. if i found the reclaimed lumber (rather than buying it) it would just be labor - and paint if one so chooses.
